JEWELLERY QUARTER
Jewellery Quarter station was opened in 1995 as part of the "Jewellery Line" project - the reopening of the former GWR route between Birmingham Snow Hill and Smethwick which had closed to all traffic in 1972. No station had previously existed at this location but the former GWR Hockley station was situated just a few chains to the north west. In 1999 the Midland Metro was opened and a tram stop was added to the station. Having opened in the last few months of British Rail the station passed to Central Trains upon privatisation. It is currently operated by London Midland and also served by peak time Chiltern Railways services to and from London Manrylebone. CRS code: JEQ.
