DUMBARTON CENTRAL [Dumbarton]
The present station at Dumbarton Central is the result of an extensive rebuilding by the Dumbarton & Balloch Joint Line Committee in 1896. The object of the reconstruction was to accommodate both the North British and Caledonian services from the Lanarkshire & Dumbartonshire Railway.
The station consists of two island platforms and is situated entirely on a viaduct. The buildings are category A listed under the Town and Country Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) (Scotland) Act 1997. Operated by First Scotrail on belalf of Strathclyde Passenger Transport. CRS code: DBC.
