GOBOWEN [Gobowen for Oswestry]
A Shropshire station close to the Welsh border which acts as a railhead for the town of Oswestry. Opened in 1846 by the Shrewsbury & Chester Railway, the main station building is in a pleasing Florentine style, with the rest of the station consisting of later GWR additions. The station is now operated and served solely by Arriva Trains Wales, although it enjoyed a direct London service for a short time courtesy of the late lamented Wrexham, Shropshire & Marylebone Railway. The booking office is privately run and is independent from the Train Operating Company. CRS code: GOB.
